There will also be some unrelated topics. We will talk about things we know. Mine would be egg salad but he is talking cloth, batting, cloth sandwiches. There are pictures that will explain what he means if you look at older blogs. I will be adding new pictures from his classes at <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">QSDS</span> and Australia. <br /><br />We have been so busy with life that I have let this page slip. I would say I was sorry but now that I have grand kids, they are taking up my time and energy. We had a wonderful winter in California last year from October through April and we will be heading back for a quick trip soon. We are trying to decide what to do with our life now. 2011 will be Bob's busiest year for teaching and we are thinking of selling the house and <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">downsizing</span> to California. IF we end up doing that we will have to sell a lot of Bob's possessions. One that comes to mind is his George (<span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-error">APQS</span>) sewing machine and table. We would be downsizing to a one bedroom apt. from a 3 bedroom with a full basement studio. Needless to say a lot of tools and supplies will have to go. <br /><br />Bob had a great time teaching in Australia. The students were eager to learn and one class made him a discharged jacket with some of the material they had discharged in class. He plans on wearing it in his future classes.<br /><br />Check back around Christmas. We will be back from California and I will post some pictures from Australia. <br /><br />NatalieNatalie for Bobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04733759178670486069noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5033552533818968725.post-57886049371475013272009-12-16T15:56:00.005-05:002009-12-16T17:00:39.746-05:00Class examplesIf you are taking a class from Bob and the class list calls for: 4 fabric sandwiches 18 x 18: top white, middle a thin batting, bottom black. On two use the white side and layer 2 1/2 inch to 3 inch strips of solid colors (hand dyed or store bought) on the other two use the black as the top and layer 2 inch strips of solids and small prints that read close to solid. On one of the strips you can use a bold print if you have one in your stash just to see how it looks. <img class="gl_photo" border="0" alt="Add Image" src="http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif" /> Look at the picture below:<br /><br /><br /><p><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 193px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415942469000464642" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgR4Pw-j-h1xAGOhM__5h7hRXK-BVAiU9WTvUligNahF875oZfimB2OVRqMKtRk1z3MXX62tylWHWAuvwXLqsXQ050GbxdvRIzRMUg7C_MWpJCQm_ohdI6oNZVBC_h4G5wx4EPfKkwovFE/s320/Threadaudition1.jpg" /></p><br /><p></p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPyIxU728SVrY6E3wN7a6Jix2zFSenWusXlbHNTHEOoek2DPUIoRKc8W0DAXUIYG5TXhWVVihgtZCAgjp6yneKoN_YqvW7cYLLHsvRDHVeUEU6YUAqu8RWfFO0wZIDr0L3gcgcsn_SihQ/s1600-h/Threadaudition2.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: left; HEIGHT: 225px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415943612734781666" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPyIxU728SVrY6E3wN7a6Jix2zFSenWusXlbHNTHEOoek2DPUIoRKc8W0DAXUIYG5TXhWVVihgtZCAgjp6yneKoN_YqvW7cYLLHsvRDHVeUEU6YUAqu8RWfFO0wZIDr0L3gcgcsn_SihQ/s320/Threadaudition2.jpg" /></a><br /><p>Then the list might say: · 4 - three inch squares in each of the following colors: 4 warm, 4 cool, and 4 neutral. A lot has <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">happened</span> in the last year. Bob got into Quilt National for the 4<span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">th</span> time (4 out of 5 entries...I'm proud of him). We of course went to Athens and met up with old friends. We re-connected with <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-error">Glenys</span> Mann from <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">Australia</span> . We met <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_4" class="blsp-spelling-error">Glenys</span> back in 96 or 97 at <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_5" class="blsp-spelling-error">QSDS</span> when it was held at the <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_6" class="blsp-spelling-error">Josehpina</span> in Columbus. <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_7" class="blsp-spelling-error">Glenys</span> asked Bob to come to Australia to teach for 2 weeks next fall. As those who have taken a class from Bob you know that I am always hanging out in the class. But I think I may pass up this trip. Two days after the last class he is teaching for Pro Chemical in <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_8" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">Massachusetts</span> and I think I better stay back and get all his material to Fall River. So I will spend that time visiting family and friends on the east coast. <br /><br />We moved (for the winter only but our winter started in October) to California. I am thinking I could stay here forever. Our son has a small condo that is not selling right now so he asked us to come out and this way we can spend time with the grand children. We went from no grand kids a few years ago to soon having 5. We now have 3 step grandkids ages 13, 11, and 9 and then they had a boy a year ago July and another boy is on the way, due in January.<br /><br />The condo is only 560 square feet. Rather small. Bob is teaching several classes out here in California so he brought many quilts to show as examples in class. He also bought his George sewing machine and his Bernina. So the entire condo is his studio now. I have a small corner of the bedroom for my computers and printers. But that is all I need. Especially when it is the of December and the windows are open and we are comfortable on the coldest day with just a light jacket or sweatshirt. Tim is the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the LA Kings Hockey team so we get to go to as many home hockey games as we want. We are having a great time out here and Bob still has time to do his quilting. We do miss being able to run up to Chicago to see our daughter Amy and her husband. That's about all for now. I won't wait so long before my next blog. <br /><br />NNatalie for Bobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04733759178670486069noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5033552533818968725.post-53064815671324419182009-06-20T15:02:00.008-04:002009-06-20T15:58:15.908-04:00Quilting by the Lake<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPY4OwS9RP8_Pv4hD7ngAybFe5Wg1rW08sIXdUltS1V3qPu1a-dQHo4yuoix0hMkL63DxUOknk32BbBB10bieW7aPxX6Gr7cKKf-NOmurPfGzPKDU86lMT_yplNgNpXb7Va1hJkZmh9ck/s1600-h/IMG_0655.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; WIDTH: 320px; FLOAT: right; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5349491363985811650" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPY4OwS9RP8_Pv4hD7ngAybFe5Wg1rW08sIXdUltS1V3qPu1a-dQHo4yuoix0hMkL63DxUOknk32BbBB10bieW7aPxX6Gr7cKKf-NOmurPfGzPKDU86lMT_yplNgNpXb7Va1hJkZmh9ck/s320/IMG_0655.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><div>Thank you Janet for asking the first question. Here are some pictures of what the "sandwiches" with different colored 3" strips should look like. The idea is for you to audition thread colors on different colored fabric strips, so when you go home you can refer to this "sampler." You can see that the blue thread looks one color on the red material and a different color on the green material. So use colors that are you tend to use alot. That way it will be helpful in the future. But also use colors you don't tend to use so that you will have those as a reference also. You can attach your strips by sewing them with 1/4 in seams or just by "wonder-undering" (fusing). Bob and I are looking forward to the class. If any of you have other questions feel free to send an e-mail.</div><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1BMAjzo-MaXiaRZd2nKUlHHEKaeD3OVySzW7MqssfqDYpKIZmG2frtw1AstYXMeOCIpsSllcyrPMf-DAjMfbgaq0HXjvNPSINkW0SrYG3hBZ_FE0Um0upWHCe2o-2-NEjeWr82ES1ZVA/s1600-h/DSC_0192.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; HEIGHT: 214px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5349489558365481154" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1BMAjzo-MaXiaRZd2nKUlHHEKaeD3OVySzW7MqssfqDYpKIZmG2frtw1AstYXMeOCIpsSllcyrPMf-DAjMfbgaq0HXjvNPSINkW0SrYG3hBZ_FE0Um0upWHCe2o-2-NEjeWr82ES1ZVA/s320/DSC_0192.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPOmJ9vDxQ_j94M_AnKUGhmMa8Y7jiI0guyEa5aCasZeHOPXRpMERlYGyy2c5nbLBROQ9GN7eEoBTWr5Bxux37X9-M8Xq4TdBsT0BZrQ5D5vhjoF9l7gS3BZxVgbFc8fCjJEixJ-ts8M0/s1600-h/DSC_0183.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; HEIGHT: 214px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5349489557234419458" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPOmJ9vDxQ_j94M_AnKUGhmMa8Y7jiI0guyEa5aCasZeHOPXRpMERlYGyy2c5nbLBROQ9GN7eEoBTWr5Bxux37X9-M8Xq4TdBsT0BZrQ5D5vhjoF9l7gS3BZxVgbFc8fCjJEixJ-ts8M0/s320/DSC_0183.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcQ0Z8hnYko481L28PnqZ3C90KwVXRZGQDaa8T_Bfi42-QG-KTjs1xZaOSyBDz8UlqT46gDeQ7eckKVHDBXboXpLhn8_bHLE3ATTDFQhhKtmbneIBBA5a4yXpj3A_gz7feTK31FhmYRN4/s1600-h/DSC_0137.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; HEIGHT: 214px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5349489551368071490" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcQ0Z8hnYko481L28PnqZ3C90KwVXRZGQDaa8T_Bfi42-QG-KTjs1xZaOSyBDz8UlqT46gDeQ7eckKVHDBXboXpLhn8_bHLE3ATTDFQhhKtmbneIBBA5a4yXpj3A_gz7feTK31FhmYRN4/s320/DSC_0137.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzOc-hEbqqd1yS7088BfWdFVW3c3fD-85917RcYQ6fB_kK6T0ldVBhGY-T4WglNv1O4TkooHRcFuoKfh7NU6BTaaU14Qg2-L2-gMVomRgg_WuQXKUpFbWznKvYBeP0eiGNrFlWTLmbNvo/s1600-h/DSC_0136.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; HEIGHT: 214px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5349489545359316578" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzOc-hEbqqd1yS7088BfWdFVW3c3fD-85917RcYQ6fB_kK6T0ldVBhGY-T4WglNv1O4TkooHRcFuoKfh7NU6BTaaU14Qg2-L2-gMVomRgg_WuQXKUpFbWznKvYBeP0eiGNrFlWTLmbNvo/s320/DSC_0136.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtel6kGj-BfiGbggt9BKDNacWXaFxvnzM-ev-yZpQ4I5hT4W9mUt-W2gsUoPDAwFdUIIt3jnYxuxnZRoRvNSs66VCKMHSJ4GdT89fEr2r3gcebgWqJ4jpITZJ-0dRgeWmtWnzktP9qx5k/s1600-h/P1010551.jpg"><img style="WIDTH: 320px; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5349489568703166818" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtel6kGj-BfiGbggt9BKDNacWXaFxvnzM-ev-yZpQ4I5hT4W9mUt-W2gsUoPDAwFdUIIt3jnYxuxnZRoRvNSs66VCKMHSJ4GdT89fEr2r3gcebgWqJ4jpITZJ-0dRgeWmtWnzktP9qx5k/s320/P1010551" /></div><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div></div></a><br /><br /><div></div><br /><br /><br /><div></div>Natalie for Bobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04733759178670486069noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5033552533818968725.post-46649115477879406912009-04-08T14:13:00.004-04:002009-04-08T14:28:31.661-04:00April 8, 2009Well it has been a while since my last post. A lot has happened. Bob's brother died unexpectedly. Then our son Tim had a blood clot in his lung and is still working that one out. He was on his way to New York for the primier of the Travel Channels show "Dhani Tackles the Globe" with Dhani Jones. Tim is his Performance Coach and travels with him to all these countries and that was something the doctors thought might have contributed to the clot. Thank goodness he went to the hospital before he got on the plane or who knows what might have happened to that clot. <br /><br />I am still looking for work. Who knows what will happen with that. Bob is looking for students to take classes at the studio here. The few classes he taught have been very successful and the students very pleased. I need to put testimonials up I guess.Natalie for Bobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04733759178670486069noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5033552533818968725.post-29702235455095730552009-03-06T11:26:00.004-05:002009-03-06T11:37:43.382-05:00NCSW 4 of 4OK this is the last post on North Country Studio Workshops. One was a stitching and markmarking class taught by Ilze Aviks - www.ilzeaviks.com but there might have been a little too much hand sewing for my liking (actually I am lucky to do machine sewing these days) and the other that I think I really would have enjoyed was a felting class taught by Lisa Klakulak. They did some amazing things. If you ever have a chance to take her class you will not regret it. Sorry I don't have any pictures of either class but go to their web sites and you can get an idea of what they did. I did spend time in Ilze's class bringing messages from the office. I volunteered to help out in the office when they needed to take a break or needed someone to run to the classes to deliver messages. It was truly a great week.Natalie for Bobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04733759178670486069noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5033552533818968725.post-9558840823465424602009-03-06T10:55:00.004-05:002009-03-06T11:06:15.477-05:00NCSW 2 - 4There were 2 clay workshops. One was using the wheel taught by Julia Galloway and the other was slab work with Marc Leuthold. The pictures are from the slab workshop since it was also below Bob's class room and I could get some pictures without disturbing the class. It was an amazing experience. I will post pictures soon. Since I recently lost my job (about one month ago) I find that I will have plenty of time to tend to the blog. So here we go.<br /><br />Have you ever been to a Chiropractor? I have not since my brother, whom I loved dearly, was an MD and really didn't think much of them. Well Bob has had a pain in his neck (not me...really!) for years. Old football injury and he mentioned it to our MD and he took xrays and said Bob had arthritis in his neck. Well duh! End of discussion. So for Valentines day I gave him 4 sessions of acupuncture at The Spine Worx which is near our house to help with the pain. Well Dr. Jim Pucka said sure he was licensed to do acupuncture but why not fix the problem not just the pain. So that is what is going to happen. I certainly will keep you posted. <br /><br />Bob has a student coming here to the studio from Kentucky next week for a 3 day class. That should be fun.<br /><br />Well that is all for now. I will post pictures in the next few days of Vermont.Natalie for Bobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04733759178670486069noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5033552533818968725.post-48688049646094913502008-06-09T13:49:00.003-04:002008-11-13T12:21:25.502-05:00QSDS<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhODAGKPMoaaEYOvI_wasdnCAXd0uLMXAMKEx78Gi5YnjJnPPMTsLs5Os6truYEOOV5M_V1MmTiuS6ZcLBAe2WhuMlgib-B4i9oQKfANePxez-wiON-_jV1gcUJqTN5wkKxESHE0nOnwf8/s1600-h/IMG_2091.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5209943367437816098" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhODAGKPMoaaEYOvI_wasdnCAXd0uLMXAMKEx78Gi5YnjJnPPMTsLs5Os6truYEOOV5M_V1MmTiuS6ZcLBAe2WhuMlgib-B4i9oQKfANePxez-wiON-_jV1gcUJqTN5wkKxESHE0nOnwf8/s320/IMG_2091.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgI3n_eQPK4RaA72rOPBBIueiubGcn6w7_HFrGg4XqmzyVjQ1C3LXnxvufjiIJ1uweCiyM59_PGUfmlfMiU-66rTnTCMAWlXe7bbbcQjqlC9ssotnxbl56eDxMHH8i8BcmDfsiRQ4SYLsg/s1600-h/IMG_2081.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5209943377882472818" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgI3n_eQPK4RaA72rOPBBIueiubGcn6w7_HFrGg4XqmzyVjQ1C3LXnxvufjiIJ1uweCiyM59_PGUfmlfMiU-66rTnTCMAWlXe7bbbcQjqlC9ssotnxbl56eDxMHH8i8BcmDfsiRQ4SYLsg/s320/IMG_2081.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4E9uqwWM3Q02ucsGa-Qad7FFQByKS9hQt4rDsJb4LxdRGFVKT8xObcJ3Q_EtHXogFkJIufNoYApxpHZG8qWHfYK_G4QiM85Fqcj_q2tAAzif5rgqz1F1MgSZaZ-nRIpzUEVbkne0TfNo/s1600-h/IMG_2080.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5209943386198479986" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4E9uqwWM3Q02ucsGa-Qad7FFQByKS9hQt4rDsJb4LxdRGFVKT8xObcJ3Q_EtHXogFkJIufNoYApxpHZG8qWHfYK_G4QiM85Fqcj_q2tAAzif5rgqz1F1MgSZaZ-nRIpzUEVbkne0TfNo/s320/IMG_2080.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><div>For those taking Bob's class at QSDS who are having trouble visualizing what he is asking for, I will post some pictures of the fat quarter sandwich. You can make the sandwich white on one side and black on the other. Then take one sandwich in white and attach 3 inch strips of solid colors and on another sandwich use printed or textured. Then do the same in black. OK I know you are confused. Just look at the pictures and you will see what he wants.</div>Natalie for Bobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04733759178670486069noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5033552533818968725.post-22850743773859336522008-01-29T19:01:00.000-05:002008-01-29T19:14:39.623-05:00January 2008So what have I been doing all this time? Working I guess. What has Bob been doing? He has a new series going. I would love to show you pictures but I am not sure what the rules are for some shows. Maybe I can post some works in progress? I will check that out. We did go down to New Albany, Indiana to the Form Not Function show at the Carnegie Art Center. Again a great show. We met up with our friend Carol Pollard from Ohio who also had a piece in the show. <br /><br />Bob's new series is called "Infrastructure." It is of course mostly discharged pieces. Mostly Thiox and all about grates and manhole covers. He started doing this after years of collecting pictures on our trips of grates of various sizes and shapes. He was asked to be in a three man show at the Visions Art Gallery in San Diego this June and he wanted all new pieces so this series came about. Of course he will end up with much more than he can hang in San Diego. <br /><br />OK best laid plans. I just went to download a picture and I am at the wrong computer. So that is it for tonight. I will try again in a few days. SorryNatalie for Claire and Leslie are pros at schlepping things cross country as we really find out the next week when they cart all the tables, irons, and "stuff" including a commercial sink up to Birmingham to build the "Virtual Studio" at the Festival of Quilts. But back to East Grinstead and the Chequer Mead Community Art Center. Bob had a huge room and the weather was so nice that whenever they wanted to work outside they were able. Chequer Mead had a cafe that served wonderful food. I must admit that the food in the UK seems to have improved since our last visit 10 years ago. The first picture is of Chequer Mead. The huge area on the left is Bob's room.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgD4bZjXydDeiHjzB0qFqPgVXoxdiGkxHjcMwntKmeYhrZQHvi2zuq4P4gxNiS_sZFjYQ7Nn63g2FOwKa7inLl_V2YuWz_5NSXSI9Nb0zhH3iz7KKbdvRiZsHXDSAoFUvdzPRh0yLgyrlU/s1600-h/Checker+Mead+1.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108245407446522978" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgD4bZjXydDeiHjzB0qFqPgVXoxdiGkxHjcMwntKmeYhrZQHvi2zuq4P4gxNiS_sZFjYQ7Nn63g2FOwKa7inLl_V2YuWz_5NSXSI9Nb0zhH3iz7KKbdvRiZsHXDSAoFUvdzPRh0yLgyrlU/s200/Checker+Mead+1.jpg" border="0" /> </a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQ2iV6InwLFyZMiujRdMtezvk7szRBxym2s3fGxtXHvi79kU-zJ3O8Nq5CkErn_UmQKUMnYVXHXozMaYDVaMuC5z7Z__1UxrltrMMUKfQsLzfBEFuK5OAceNfHEnfWoEshydgfXYzAYEI/s1600-h/chequer+Mead2.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108245416036457586" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQ2iV6InwLFyZMiujRdMtezvk7szRBxym2s3fGxtXHvi79kU-zJ3O8Nq5CkErn_UmQKUMnYVXHXozMaYDVaMuC5z7Z__1UxrltrMMUKfQsLzfBEFuK5OAceNfHEnfWoEshydgfXYzAYEI/s200/chequer+Mead2.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br />Attentive students while Bob demonstrates and shows examples.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaJuP_b6_Mzcl-xiMFNPzgu7ZP0fsVBR2fUwd0dqPE5fRdsza0jcY13o1ab_V4sFJAMWevXpvgYVVJCTo4OPTfDXGGMRAifUkG-eYLCARNZ6VWZR1Kj6MngSuBfLj4JRcHKoFNUAZuGE0/s1600-h/a+cm+21.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108246481188347010" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhaJuP_b6_Mzcl-xiMFNPzgu7ZP0fsVBR2fUwd0dqPE5fRdsza0jcY13o1ab_V4sFJAMWevXpvgYVVJCTo4OPTfDXGGMRAifUkG-eYLCARNZ6VWZR1Kj6MngSuBfLj4JRcHKoFNUAZuGE0/s200/a+cm+21.jpg" border="0" /></a> <img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5108246489778281618" style="CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwcTmcr3j0JATtJMhoLsdK4Ajm7c0e-a3cBxsGWSjG5vfhOm2GeHyNjhIWndohgy_U3M5AIKyK-jZz1jKcofk-6b_YGxxRhLhvH5GVEC8-vD9CVBZpd_HGG-fKZX88ZqJaCVBbs-rfKfA/s200/a+cm+20.jpg" border="0" /><br /><br /><br /><br />Then at various times during the week the students are hard at work. There you will be able to see what they accomplished during the week and also I hope to throw in some pictures of East Grinstead. I spent a few days walking around town. And as a good Episcopalian, I found the local Anglican church and went to a morning service on Wednesday. So more to come but I have to figure out how to download the pictures so it isn't such a pain. I did discover that if you click on the pictures they become larger and that will be great for the next bunch. Thanks for reading. Where do I begin. We had a great time in the UK. What's not to like about traveling to a place where they still like us...well most of us. We left Indianapolis Thursday night and flew to Detroit and caught the 9:30 PM to Gatwick. It seemed like 30 planes all landed at the same time and everyone had to go through immigration. The line was long and slow. When we finally made it through, there was Claire Benn waiting for us. What a relief to see her smiling face in the crowd. We were whisked away to Bovey Cottage. What a gorgeous place. The grounds were spectacular. James had fresh vegetables and a wide variety of fruit growing. Fresh figs in the morning and fresh veggies in the evenings.</div><div align="left"><br /></div><div align="left">Since we arrived on Friday we had the weekend to rest up and get over jet lag. We never have jet lag going over the Atlantic...only coming back. But none the less we did such restful things as:</div><div align="left"><br /></div><div align="left"></div><div align="left"><br /></div><div align="left">Took a trip to Dorking and walked around, had tea, and went shopping at the local supermarket.</div><div align="left"><br /></div><div align="left"></div><div align="left"><br /></div><div align="left">Went into London to tour the Tate Modern. They have a wonderful Rothko collection. </div><div align="left"><br /></div><div align="left"></div><div align="left"><br /></div><div align="left">Treated like royalty. James and Claire are great chefs and gracious hosts. We can't thank Claire and Leslie enough for the opportunity to come and teach to their group of talented artists.</div><div align="center"><br /></div><div align="center"></div><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5107985308522044482" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEa4cj_vg0lbq4e4Mo4dSUEf1McoDBmEE0m6SwN4Q0p7rPNWk1f69oxhvsi9uI0SB2yfgJiiEpEgPEpwaVwOKKaPytSWIa6fxtWo59NT78iTJ4-CDGJ1dpiTyOmyw5YpvunycA9FVGCm8/s200/tate+modern.jpg" border="0" /> A picture from the Tate Modern in London<br /><br /><br /><br /><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5107985299932109874" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJynolbGKctDibMq8rKW7I_7apCtYcbYvWWAGdhAHnudFsS1lad5R-Oo4I3xDG0BeVvvP-SaW4CcOFpdhjZQ79UaoiE9QVOT4qRE0f6rojBq2RRQWfASOh5o-iVm8scPlmAz7ayWz0Nf0/s200/Bovey+Cottage+fog.jpg" border="0" />I suppose a lot of you know of Bob's habit of going to bed early and getting up early. If not he does...or used to. He was in the habit of going to bed around 6:00 PM and getting up around 1:00AM or 2:00 AM. James and Claire were bound to break him of this habit and he was doing very well. So one morning when he got up at the late hour of 5:00 AM he was able to play a little ball with Angus (below) and snap this picture of fog at Bovey. That was the only time the weather was anything but beautiful. The whole week Bob was teaching at Chequer Mead over in East Grinstead was sunny and cool.<br /><br /><br /><br /><p align="right"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5107985317111979090" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; CURSOR: hand; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1zk6f5JRuP03Cm2LEKbQXcgDYBA2yXMtwkO_lF-XI7BgZDFatMqyzJVAFfo0RzRJM_-00Scgx4AdeynD2sCVUjdYULn8LW3gyeM03YNjN8VWUBdUysrYDH9dJhyphenhyphenv57-1WWKss_7Fixfg/s200/Angus.jpg" border="0" /></p><p align="center"> My buddy Angus<br /></p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjw69rlbI_s9SlDyzFlk2QdT8Wg7hSOleIldde6xZ63d14Z2G2k2a38fuecTp0KgwW2yOWBN8_rnVPYywz4aMl58zfsmZFp167lXqLuFFCKYPzLiCdeyh1_oQUaG7j4HcCH5MC9-Ras8uU/s1600-h/IMG_2199.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5107975700680203298" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjw69rlbI_s9SlDyzFlk2QdT8Wg7hSOleIldde6xZ63d14Z2G2k2a38fuecTp0KgwW2yOWBN8_rnVPYywz4aMl58zfsmZFp167lXqLuFFCKYPzLiCdeyh1_oQUaG7j4HcCH5MC9-Ras8uU/s200/IMG_2199.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br />Well that about covers the weekend. Bob was rooming with Bill Kerr. At least the dorms were air conditioned. By Tuesday I was back to normal (as normal as I can get) and I took some pictures around the campus. It is a lot of responsibility. I posted the first with such good intentions and then life came at me. I do have a full time job that I have to work at in order to keep Bob in thread, needles, and material. Bob has done 3 workshops recently and that is what I am going to talk about and include pictures of...when we return to the states. Right now I am blogging from <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">Bovey</span> Cottage in <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">Betchworth</span>, UK. When we return and I have downloaded the pictures I will tell you all about the workshops. Our time in England has been wonderful. You couldn't ask for better hosts than Claire and James Benn. Claire Benn and Leslie Morgan are "Committed to Cloth" and are a very talented, giving duo. They just <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">collaborated</span> with Jane <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">Dunnewold</span> on a book called "Finding Your Own Visual Language." Check out their web site: <a href="http://www.committedtocloth.com/">www.committedtocloth.com</a> <br /><br />Well that is all for today. This is our last day in the UK and I will be sad to leave. Bob is ready to get back and start working again. As much as he likes doing workshops, they do take him away from the studio.Natalie for Bobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04733759178670486069noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5033552533818968725.post-85006919726594829902007-06-20T07:00:00.000-04:002008-11-13T12:21:30.175-05:00Art Quilts and Other ThingsThis is a blog about Art Quilts, Quilt Shows, starving quilt artists, and any thing else I might want to talk about. Then he went back and added some color with Seta paints and thread.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRw0dP5oupC1S6wwk4dkEOlmH1edE2f8ksybtluBf-yJQdGzfp1KS_Dwz1G5faee9Zxy6qw6zOjtSY0WIGlM8ednYRdRrst9c9fVRnh1iiDcXTQpkToOH552xD4eLIqdSKqWBBWCo1uw4/s1600-h/Puffin+HEad.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5078101340039128850" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 10px 10px; CURSOR: hand" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRw0dP5oupC1S6wwk4dkEOlmH1edE2f8ksybtluBf-yJQdGzfp1KS_Dwz1G5faee9Zxy6qw6zOjtSY0WIGlM8ednYRdRrst9c9fVRnh1iiDcXTQpkToOH552xD4eLIqdSKqWBBWCo1uw4/s320/Puffin+HEad.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />Here is a detail of another Puffin. This puffin is made from a woodcut Bob did using oak. He used the same technique that he used on the Styrofoam block above.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />So this is the blog. Come back.
